Since
1983 NCERT has kept the no. of qualified students in NTSE to 1000 only. This
year total participation of students at first stage of NTSE was more
than 4
lakhs which might be manifold that of
1983 takers.
Similarly
after one or the other pay commission pay and perks have been increased
everywhere whereas it is same for NTSE Rs 500 for so many
years. It should be increased to Rs 4000 per month. If you look at the KVPY Scholarship there are only 20000 students appear for this exam and the scholarship varies from Rs 4500 to 7000. NTSE is tougher than any other competitive examination in the world , the selection percentage is just .25% even in IIT JEE it is 2.5 % so statistically NTSE is 10 times tougher than JEE. However the way this exam is conducted needs special attention. This is the first time NCERT has admitted mistakes in its papers thanks to RTI act. Interview is still a dark area where lot of improvement should be done. Stage 1 papers is left to the mercy of states which is doing more harm to the reputation of this exam.

Sir, U r very correct that scholarship amnt for ntse should be incresed now. But i feel that the no. of scholarships shold nt b incrzd coz it will affect the prestige of the exam.............
U fools ...Think b4 u speak !! IIT JEE papers r mere tougher and tougher than NTSE...and who told u dat 4 lakh students appeared in dis !! Only 97456 students appeared in 2010....And in IIT JEE the seats r only 10000 and 5.5 lakhs students appears !!! Luk the standard of papers of IIT JEE and NTSE ...NTSE involves only theoritical questions and also I think most people can qualify it if Social Science get lost!! Most school students dont hv any idea abt NTSE but for IIT JEE have occupied the heart and soul of one and all !! $ UNDERSTAND # So, dere is no comparison !!!

It is good suggestions made by Mr. Nilesh. Since thirty years the number of scholarships and amount is not increased in proportion to student population and money value. Now NTSE is trying to increase the numbers scholarships to 3000 from 1000 and amount as per KVPY scheme i.e Rs 4000-7000 pm from Rs. 5000 pm.
It is right to increase amount as above to promote the science education / research in India.
I on behalf of entire student community kindly request the GOI to increase the scholarship amount and scholarships as above retrospectively from 2005
